JUNE 28, 1866.-Akropong, in the Akwapem mountains, on the Gold Coast of West Africa, is the most important station of the Basel Mission. In 1902 it had 12 stations, 18,640 native Christians, 633 candidates for baptism and 5,402 pupils in its schools in the Gold Coast district. Eight hundred and sixty heathens were baptized in 1901. Akropong was occupied as a mission station in 1835. A seminary, training native preachers and teachers, exists there since 1851. The son of the former king of Akropong became a native pastor himself. He was educated in the mission College at Basel on the Rhine. Dr. Wm. Wackernagel there knew him well, and says he was a thorough Christian gentleman every inch, no matter how black was the color of his skin.

Even to this day, alas! there are some of Dr. Kunze's brethren in nationality who are slow to follow his salutary example.

JUNE 30, 1869.-This item is obliged to go to press just as the Church Extension Board is about to report the present status of its work to the General Synod, assembled in Baltimore, with full details from all parts of the field.
