INTRODUCTORY NOTE.

THE first Three Volumes of this Magazine being out of print, it has been thought advisable to commence a New Series with the present, the Fourth Volume. This is done in order that the increasing school of Re-unionists, who desire to accept and acknowledge it as their organ, may be able to possess themselves henceforth of a complete set; and it is so effected, at the same time, that those who own the Volumes for 1863, 1864 and 1865, may still preserve unbroken the original Series.

Since January last an Edition, more than twice as great as that of the earlier Volumes, has been printed. So that the Publisher may now be reasonably expected to supply the constantly-increasing demands for this Serial, which for some time previously he has been unable to do.

The Editor cannot lay down his pen without briefly but most cordially and sincerely thanking those distinguished foreign and English writers who have contributed to this Serial, for a practical support, without which a publication, which appeals primarily to a limited class, might have been the reverse of what he is happy to declare the UNION REVIEW now to be-a decided literary success.
