And the high prie'st an'swered and said un'to him, I adju're thee by the living Go'd, that thou tell us whether thou be the Chri'st, the Son of Go'd. 64 Je'sus saith un'to him, Thou hast said: nevertheless', I say un'to you, Hereaf'ter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and com'ing in the clouds of heaven. 65 Then the high prie'st rent his clothes, sa'ying, He hath spo'ken blasphemy; what fa'rther ne'ed have we of wit'nesses? behold, now ye have heard his blas'phemy. 66 What think ye? They an'swered and said, He is guilty of death. 67 Then did they spit in his face, and buf'feted him; and oth'ers smotę 'him' with the palms of their hands, 68 Sa'ying, Proph'esy un'to us, thou Chri'st, Who is he that smote thee?

69 Now Pe'ter sat without' in the palace and a dam'ṣel came un'to him, sa'ying, Thou also wast with Je'sus of Gal'ilee. 70 But he denied befo're 'them' a'll, sa'ying, I know not what thou sa'yest. 71 And when he was gone out in'to the porch, anoth'er 'maid' saw him, and said un'to them that were there, This fellow' was also with Je'sus of Nazareth. 72 And again' he deni'ed with an oʻath, I do not know the man. 73 And after a while came un'to 'him' they that stood' by, and said to Pe'ter, Su'rely thou also art one' of them; for thy spe'ech bewra'yeth thee. 74 Then began' he to curse and to swea'r, 'sa'ying,' I know not the mạn. And imme'diately the cock crew. 75 And Peter remem'bered the words of Je'sus, which said un'to him, Befo're the cock crow, thou shalt deny' me thrice. And he went out and wept bit'terly.

CHAP. XXVII. When the mo'rning was come, a'll the chief priests and el'ders of the pe'ople took' coun'sel against Jesus to put him to death. 2 And when they had bound him, they led 'him' awa'y, and delivered him to Pon'tius Pilate the gov'ernor.

3 Then Ju'das, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condem'ned, repen'ted himself', and brought again' the thirty pie'ces of silver to the chief prie'sts and el'ders, Sa'ying, I have sinned, in that I have betrayed the in'nocent blood. And they said, What is that' to us? see thou to that.' 5 And he cast down the pieces of sil'ver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself'. 6 And the chief prie'sts took' the silver pieces, and

said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. 7 And they took' coun'sel, and bo'ught with them the pot'ter's field, to bur'y stra'ngers in. 8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, un'to this day. (9 Then was fulfill'ed that which was spoken by Jer'emy the proph'et, sa'ying, And they took' the thir'ty pie'ces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value, 10 And gave them for the pot'ter's field, as the Lo'rd appoin'ted me.)

11 And Jesus stood' befo're the gov'ernor: and the governor asked him, sa'ying, Art thou the King of the Jews? and Jesus said un'to him, Thou sa'yest. 12 And when he was accu'sed of the chief prie'sts and el'ders, he an'swered nothing. Then saith Pilate un'to him, He'arest thou not how man'y things they wit'ness against thee? 14 And he an'swered him to never a word; insomuch' that the governor ma'rvelled greatly.

15 Now at that' fe'ast the gov'ernor was wont to rele'ase un'to the people a pris'oner, whom they would'. 16 And they had then a no'table pris'oner, called Barab'bas. 17 Therefore, when they were gathered togeth'er, Pi'late said un'to them, Whom will ye that I rele'ase un'to you? Barab'bas, or Je'sus which is called Chri'st? 18 For he knew that for en'vy they had deliv'ered him.

19 When he was set down on the judg'ment-se'at, his wife sent un'to him, sa'ying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man for I have suffered man'y things this day in a dre'am because of him. 20 But the chief prie'sts and el'ders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barab'bas, and destroy' Je'ṣus. 21 The governor an'swered and said un'to them, Wheth'er of the twa'in will ye that I rele'ase un'to you? They said, Barab'bas. 22 Pi'late saith un'to them, What shall I do then with Je'sus which is called Chri'st? They' a'll say un'to him, Let him be crucified. 23 And the governor said, Why? what e'vil hath he done? But they cried out the more, sa'ying, Let him be cru'cified.

24 When Pilate saw that he could' preva'il nothing, but 'that rath'er a tu'mult was made, he took' wa'ter, and washed 'his' hands befo're the multitude, sa'ying, I am in'nocent of the blood of this just per'son; see ye 'to it.' 25 Then an'swered a'll the people, and said, His blood 'be' on us and on our children.

26 Then released he Barab'bas un'to them: and when he had scourged Je'sus, he deliv'ered him' to be crucified. 27 Then the soldiers of the gov'ernor took' Je'sus in'to the com'mon hall, and gath'ered un'to him the whole band 'of so'ldiers.' 28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. 29 And when they had plat'ted a crown of tho'rns, they put 'it' upon' his head, and a re'ed in his right hand and they bowed the knee befo're him, and mocked him, sa'ying, Ha'il, King of the Jews! 30 And they spit upon' him, and took' the re'ed, and smote him on the head. 31 And after that they had mocked him, they took' the robe off from him, and put his o'wn ra'iment on him, and led him awa'y to crucify him.' 32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyre'ne, Si'mon by name: him they compelled to bea'r his cross.

33 And when they were come un'to a place called Gol'gotha, that is to say, A place of a scull, 34 They gave him vin'egar to drink min'gled with gall: and when he had ta'sted 'thereof',' he would' not drink. 35 And they cru'cified him, and pa'rted his garments, cast'ing lots that it might be fulfilled which was spo'ken by the proph'et, They parted my garments among them, and upon' my ves'turę did they cast' lots. 36 And, sitting down, they watched him there; 37 And set up o'ver his head his accusa'tion writ'ten, THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38 Then were there two thie'ves cru'cified with him; one on the right hand, and anoth'er on the left.

39 And they that passed by revi'led him, wag'ging their heads, 40 And sa'ying, Thou that destroy'est the temple, and buil'dest 'it' in three days, save thyself'. If thou be the Son of Go'd, come down from the cross. 41 Lik'ewise a'lso the chief priests, moc'king 'him,' with the scribes and el'ders, said, 42 He saved others; himself' he can'not save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will belie've him. 43 He trus'ted in Go'd; let him deliv'er him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of Go'd. 44 The thie'ves also, which were cru'cified with him, cast' the same in his te'eth.

45 Now, from the sixth hour there was da'rkness o'ver a'll the land un'to the ni'nth hour. 46 And about' the ninth hour, Je'sus cried with a loud voice, sa'ying, E'li, E'li, la'ma sabac'hthani? that is to say, My Go'd, my Go'd, why hast thou forsa'ken me? 47 Some of them that stood there, when

they heard that,' said, This 'man' calleth for Eli'as. 48 And straightway one of them ran and took a spunġe, and filled 'it' with vinegar, and put 'it' on a re'ed, and gave him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let be; let us see wheth'er Eli'as will come to sa've him.

50 Je'sus, when he had cried again' with a loud voice, yielded up the gho'st. 51 And, behold, the vail of the temple was rent in twa'in from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent ; And the graves were o'pened; and man'y bod'ies of the saints which slept aro'se, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrec'tion, and went into the holy city, and appeared un'to man'y. 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him watch'ing Je'sus, saw the earth'quake, and those things that were done, they feared grea'tly, sa'ying, Truly this was the Son of Go'd. 55 And man'ý wom'en were there beholding afa'r off, which followed Je'sus from Galilee, min'istering un'to him: 56 Amon'g which was Ma'ry Mag'dalene, and Ma'ry the moth'er of Ja'mes and Jo'ses, and the moth'er of Zeb'edee's chil'dren.

57 When the e'ven was come, there came a rich mạn of Arimathe'a, named Jo'seph, who also himself' was Je'sus' disci'ple 58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Je'sus. Then Pi'late comman'ded the bod'y to be delivered. 59 And when Jo'seph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean lin'en cloth, 60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a grea't stone to the do'or of the sep'ulchre, and departed. 61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the oth'er Ma'ry, sitting over against the sep'ulchre.

62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the prepara'tion, the chief prie'sts and Pharisees came togeth'er un'to Pilate, 63 Sa'ying, Sir, we remember that that' dece'iver said, while he was yet ali've, Af'ter three days I will rise again'. 64 Command' therefore that the sep'ulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disci'ples come by night and ste'al him away, and say un'to the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last err'or shall be worse than the first. 65 Pi'late said un'to them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can. 66 So they went, and made the sep'ulchre sure, se'aling the stone, and set'ting a watch.

CHAP. XXVIII. In the end of the sab'bath, as it

began to dawn to'ward the first day' of the we'ek, camę Ma'ry Magdalene, and the oth'er Ma'ry, to see the sep'ulchre. 2 And, behold, there was a grea't earth'quake: for the angel of the Lo'rd descen'ded from heaven, and came and rolled back the sto'ne from the do'or, and sat upon' it. 3 His coun'tenance was like light'ning, and his ra'iment white as snow: And for fear of him the ke'epers did shake, and beca'me as dead men.' 5 And the angel an'swered and said un'to the wom'en, Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Je'sus which was cru'cified. 6 He is not here; for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lo'rd lay: 7 And go quickly and tell his disci'ples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he go'eth befo're you in'to Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 8 And they departed quick'ly from the sep'ulchre with fe'ar and great joy, and did run to bring his disci'ples word.

9 And as they went to tell his disci'ples, behold, Je'sus met them, saying, A'll ha'il. And they came and held him by the feet, and wor'shipped him. 10 Then said Je'sus un'to them, Be not afra'id go tell my breth'ren that they go in'to Galilee, and there shall they see me.

11 Now, when they were going, behold, some of the watch' came in'to the city, and shewed un'to the chie'f prie'sts all the things that were done. 12 And when they were assembled with the el'ders, and had ta'ken coun'sel, they gave large money un'to the soldiers, 13 Sa'ying, Say ye, His disci'ples came by night, and sto'le him 'awa'y' while we slept. 14 And if this come to the governor's e'ars, we will persua'de him, and secu're you. 15 So they took the mon'ey, and did as they were taught: and this sa'ying is com'monly repo'rted amon'g the Jews until this day.

16 Then the elev'en disci'ples went awa'y into Gal'ilee, into a moun'tain where Je'sus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they wor'shipped him; bụt some doubt'ed.

18 And Je'sus came and spake un'to them, sa'ying, A'll pow'er is given un'to me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and te'ach a'll na'tions, bapti'zing them in the name of the Fa'ther, and of the Son, and of the Ho'ly Gho'st; 20 Te'aching them to observ'e a'll things whatsoev'er I have comman'ded you and lo, I am with you a'lway, 'e'ven' un'to the end of the world.
