The Great Metropolitan Stakes of 25 sovs. each, 15 ft., and 5 only if declared, with a bonus of 500 sovs. added by the contributions of the Lovers of the National Sport of Racing resident in the City of London and Metropolitan districts, together with gratuities from, and subscriptions received by, the Licensed Victuallers of the Metropolis, and also deductions from sweeps drawn at their houses ; the winners of the Newmarket handicap, or the Great Northampton Stakes, to carry 5lb., of both 7lb. extra ; the owner of the second horse received 100 sovs. out of the stakes, and the third horse 50 sovs.; the winner paid 30 sovs. towards the expenses ; Great Metropolitan Stakes Course, two miles and a quarter, starting at the winning chair (114 subscribers, 55 of whom paid only 5 sovs. each).
