17 Gli disse la terza volta: Simon di Giona, m' ami tu? Pietro s' attristò ch' egli gli avesse detto fino a tre volte: M' ami tu? E gli disse: Signore, tu sai ogni cosa, tu sai ch' io t'amo. Gesù gli disse: Pasci le mie pecore.

18 In verità, in verità, io ti dico, che quando tu eri giovane, tu ti cignevi, e andavi ove volevi; ma, quando sarai vecchio, tu stenderai le tue mani, e un altro ti cignerà, e ti condurrà là ove tu non vorresti.

19 Or disse ciò, significando di qual morte egli glorificherebbe Iddio. E, detto questo, gli disse: Seguitami.

20 Or Pietro, rivoltosi, vide venir dietro a sè il discepolo che Gesù amava, il quale eziandio nella cena era coricato in sul petto di Gesù, ed avea detto: Signore, chi è colui che ti tradisce ?

21 Pietro, avendolo veduto, disse a Gesù: Signore, e costui, che ?

22 Gesù gli disse: Se io voglio ch' egli dimori finch' io venga, che tocca ciò a te? tu seguitami.

23 Laonde questo dire si sparse tra i fratelli, che quel discepolo non morrebbe; ma Gesù non avea detto a Pietro ch' egli non morrebbe; ma: Se io voglio ch' egli dimori finch' io venga, che tocca ciò a te? 24 Quest' è quel discepolo, che testimonia di queste cose, e che ha scritte queste cose; e noi sappiamo che la sua testimonianza è verace.

25 Or vi sono ancora molte altre cose, che Gesù ha fatte, le quali, se fossero scritte ad una ad una, io non penso che nel mondo stesso capissero i libri che se ne scriverebbero. Amen.

18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

2 Infino al giorno ch' egli fu accolto in alto, dopo aver dati mandamenti per lo Spirito Santo agli apostoli, i quali egli avea eletti;

3 A' quali ancora, dopo aver sofferto, si presentò vivente, con molte certe prove, essendo da loro veduto per quaranta giorni, e ragionando delle cose appartenenti al regno di Dio.

4 E, ritrovandosi con loro, ordinò loro che non si dipartissero di Gerusalemme; ma che aspettassero la promessa del Padre, la quale, disse egli, voi avete udita da me.

5 Perciocchè Giovanni battezzò con acqua, ma voi sarete battezzati con lo Spirito Santo, fra qui e non molti giorni.

6 Essi adunque, essendo raunati, lo domandarono, dicendo: Signore, sarà egli in questo tempo, che tu restituirai il regno ad Israele ?

7 Ma egli disse loro: Egli non istà a voi di sapere i tempi, e le stagioni, le quali il Padre ha messe nella sua propria podestà.

CHAPTER 1.

HE former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen :

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was

12 Allora essi ritornarono in Gerusalemme, dal monte chiamato dell' Uliveto, il quale è presso di Gerusalemme la lunghezza del cammin del sabato.

13 E, come furono entrati nella casa, salirono nell' alto solaio, dove dimoravano Pietro, e Giacomo, e Giovanni, ed Andrea, e Filippo, e Toma, e Bartolommeo, e Matteo, e Giacomo d' Alfeo, e Simon il Zelote, e Giuda di Giacomo.

14 Tutti costoro persevera van di pari consentimento in orazione, e in preghiera, con le donne, e con Maria, madre di Gesù, e co' fratelli di esso.

15 Ed in que' giorni, Pietro, levatosi in mezzo de' discepoli, disse, (or la moltitudine delle persone tutte insieme era d' intorno a centoventi persone):

16 Uomini fratelli, e' conveniva che questa scrittura si adempiesse, la qual lo Spirito Santo predisse per la bocca di Davide, intorno a Giuda, che fu la guida di coloro che preser Gesù;

17 Perciocchè egli era stato assunto nel nostro numero, e avea ottenuta la sorte di questo ministerio. 18 Egli adunque acquistò un campo del premio d' ingiustizia; ed, essendosi precipitato, crepò per lo mezzo, e tutte le sue interiora si sparsero.

19 E ciò è venuto a notizia a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme; talchè quel campo, nel lor proprio linguaggio, è stato chiamato, Acheldama, che vuol dire : Campo di sangue.

10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about a hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this Scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called, in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 Perciocchè egli è scritto nel Libro de' Salmi: Divenga la sua stanza deserta, e non vi sia chi abiti in essa; e: Un altro prenda il suo ufficio.

21 Egli si conviene adunque, che, d' infra gli uomini che sono stati nella nostra compagnia, in tutto il tempo che il Signor Gesù è andato, e venuto fra noi;

22 Cominciando dal battesimo di Giovanni, fino al giorno ch' egli fu accolto in alto d' appresso noi, un d'essi sia fatto testimonio con noi della risurrezion d'esso.

23 E ne furono presentati due, Giuseppe, detto Barsaba, il quale era soprannominato Giusto, e Mattia.

24 Ed orando, dissero: Tu, Signore, che conosci i cuori di tutti, mostra qual di questi due tu hai eletto,

25 Per ricever la sorte di questo ministerio ed apostolato, dal quale Giuda si è sviato, per andare al suo luogo.

26 E trassero le sorti loro, e la sorte cadde sopra Mattia, ed egli fu per comuni voti aggiunto agli undici apostoli.

COME il giorno della Pentecosta fu giunto, tutti erano insieme di pari consentimento.

2 E di subito si fece dal cielo un suono, come di vento impetuoso che soffia, ed esso riempiè tutta la casa, dove essi sedevano.

3 E apparver loro delle lingue spartite, come di fuoco; e ciascuna d'esse si posò sopra ciascun di loro. 4 E tutti furon ripieni dello Spirito Santo, e cominciarono a parlar lingue straniere, secondo che lo Spirito dava loro a ragionare.

5 Or in Gerusalemme dimoravano de' Giudei, uomini religiosi, d' ogni nazione di sotto il cielo.

6 Ora, essendosi fatto quel suono, la moltitudine si raunò, e fu confusa; perciocchè ciascun di loro gli udiva parlar nel suo proprio linguaggio.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and, His bishoprick let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

CHAPTER 2.

all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

10 Nella Frigia, e nella Panfilia; nell' Egitto, e nelle parti della Libia ch'è di rincontro a Cirene; e noi avveniticci Romani;

11 E Giudei, e proseliti; Cretesi, ed Arabi; gli udiamo ragionar le cose grandi di Dio ne' nostri linguaggi.

12 E tutti stupivano, e ne stavan sospesi, dicendo l' uno all' altro Che vuol esser questo?

13 Ma altri, gavillando, dicevano : Son pieni di vin dolce.

14 Ma Pietro, levatosi in piè, con gli undici, alzò la sua voce, e ragionò loro, dicendo: Uomini Giudei, e voi tutti che abitate in Gerusalemme, siavi noto questo, e ricevete le mie parole ne' vostri orecchi;

15 Perciocchè costoro non son ebbri, come voi stimate, conciossiachè non sien più che le tre ore del giorno.

16 Ma quest' è quello che fu detto dal profeta Gioele :

17 E avverrà negli ultimi giorni, dice Iddio, che io spanderò del mio Spirito sopra ogni carne; ei vostri figliuoli, e le vostre figliuole profetizzeranno; e i vostri giovani vedranno delle visioni, e i vostri vecchi sogneranno de' sogni.

18 E in que' giorni io spanderò dello Spirito mio sopra i miei servitori, e sopra le mie serventi; e profetizzeranno.

19 E farò prodigi di sopra nel cielo, e segni di sotto in terra, sangue, e fuoco, e vapor di fumo.

20 Il sole sarà mutato in tenebre, e la luna in sangue, innanzi che

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 ¶ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

:

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy :

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood.
