4 Perciocchè, quando l' uno dice: Quant' è a me, io son di Paolo; e l'altro: Ed io d'Apollo; non siete voi carnali?

5 Chi è adunque Paolo? e chi è Apollo? se non ministri, per i quali voi avete creduto, e ciò secondo che il Signore ha dato a ciascuno?

6 Io ho piantato, Apollo ha adacquato, ma Iddio ha fatto crescere. 7 Talchè, nè colui che pianta, nè colui che adacqua, non è nulla; ma non vi è altri che Iddio, il quale fa crescere.

8 Ora, e colui che pianta, e colui che adacqua, sono una medesima cosa; e ciascuno riceverà il suo proprio premio, secondo la sua fatica.

9 Conciossiachè noi siamo operai nell' opera di Dio; voi siete il campo di Dio, l'edificio di Dio. 10 Io, secondo la grazia di Dio che mi è stata data, come savio architetto, ho posto il fondamento, ed altri edifica sopra; ora ciascun riguardi come egli edifica sopra.

11 Perciocchè niuno può porre altro fondamento che quello ch'è stato posto, il quale è Gesù Cristo. 12 Ora, se alcuno edifica sopra questo fondamento oro, argento, pietre preziose, ovvero, legno, fieno, stoppia;

13 L'opera di ciascuno sarà manifestata; perciocchè il giorno la paleserà; conciossiachè abbia ad esser manifestata per fuoco; e il fuoco farà la prova qual sia l' opera di ciascuno.

14 Se l'opera d' alcuno, la quale egli abbia edificata sopra il fondamento, dimora, egli ne riceverà premio.

15 Se l'opera d'alcuno è arsa, egli farà perdita; ma egli sarà salvato, per modo però, che sarà come per lo fuoco.

16 Non sapete voi che siete il tempio di Dio, e che lo Spirito di Dio abita in voi?

17 Se alcuno guasta il tempio di

ye not carnal, and walk as men ? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man ?

6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

17 If any man defile the temple

18 Niuno inganni sè stesso; se alcuno fra voi si pensa esser savio in questo secolo, divenga pazzo, acciocchè diventi savio.

19 Perciocchè la sapienza di questo mondo è pazzia appo Iddio; conciossiachè sia scritto: Egli è quel che prende i savi nella loro astuzia.

20 E altrove: Il Signore conosce i pensieri de' savi, e sa che son vani.

21 Perciò, niuno si glorii negli uomini, perciocchè ogni cosa è vostra ;

22 E Paolo, e Apollo, e Cefa, e il mondo, e la vita, e la morte, e le cose presenti, e le cose future; ogni cosa è vostra ;

23 E voi siete di Cristo, e Cristo è di Dio.

4 Perciocchè non mi sento nella coscienza colpevole di cosa alcuna; tuttavolta, non per questo sono giustificato; ma il Signore è quel che mi giudica.

5 Perciò, non giudicate di nulla innanzi al tempo, finchè sia venuto il Signore, il quale metterà in luce le cose occulte delle tenebre, e manifesterà i consigli de' cuori; e allora ciascuno avrà la sua lode da Dio.

6 Ora, fratelli, io ho rivolte queste cose, per una cotal maniera di parlare, in me, e in Apollo, per amor vostro, acciocchè impariate in noi di non esser savi sopra ciò

for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God: for it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

21 Therefore let no man glory in men for all things are yours;

22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;

23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

CHAPTER 4.

LET a man so account of us, as

of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.

4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is

8 Già siete saziati, già siete arricchiti, già siete divenuti re senza noi; e fosse pur così, che voi foste divenuti re, acciocchè noi ancora regnassimo con voi.

9 Perciocchè io stimo che Iddio ci ha menati in mostra, noi gli ultimi apostoli, come uomini dannati a morte; conciossiachè noi siamo stati fatti un pubblico spettacolo al mondo, agli angeli, ed agli uomini.

10 Noi siam pazzi per Cristo, e voi siete savi in Cristo; noi siam deboli, e voi forti; voi iete gloriosi, e noi disonorati.

11 Infino ad ora sofferiamo fame, e sete, e nudità; e siam battuti di guanciate, e non abbiamo alcuna stanza ferma :

12 E ci affatichiamo, lavorando con le proprie mani: ingiuriati, benediciamo, perseguitati, comportiamo;

13 Biasimati, supplichiamo; noi siamo divenuti come le spazzature del mondo, e come la lordura di tutti infino ad ora.

14 Io non scrivo queste cose per farvi vergogna, ma vi ammonisco come miei cari figli.

15 Perciocchè, avvegnachè voi aveste diecimila pedagoghi in Cristo, non però avreste molti padri; conciossiachè io vi abbia generati in Cristo Gesù, per l' evangelo.

16 Io vi esorto adunque che siate miei imitatori.

17 Per questo vi ho mandato Timoteo, che è mio figliuol diletto, e fedele nel Signore, il qual vi rammemorerà quali son le mie vie in Cristo, come io insegno per tutto in ogni chiesa.

18 Or alcuni si son gonfiati, come se io non dovessi venire a voi.

puffed up for one against another. 7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive ? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

8 Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place;

12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

13 Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

14 I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.

15 For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

16 Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.

17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

18 Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.

19 Ma tosto verrò a voi, se piace al Signore; e conoscerò, non il parlar di coloro che si son gonfiati, ma la potenza.

20 Perciocchè il regno di Dio non consiste in parlare, ma in potenza. 21 Che volete? verrò io a voi con la verga? ovvero con amore, e con ispirito di mansuetudine ?

19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power. 20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness ?

CHAPTER 5.

is reported commonly that

e tal zione, che non pur fra i Gentili è nominata, cioè, che alcuno si tien la moglie del padre.

2 E pure ancora voi siete gonfi, e più tosto non avete fatto cordoglio, acciocchè colui che ha commesso questo fatto fosse tolto del mezzo di voi.

3 Conciossiachè io, come assente del corpo, ma presente dello spirito, abbia già giudicato, come presente, che colui che ha commesso ciò in questa maniera:

4 (Voi, e lo spirito mio essendo raunati nel nome del nostro Signor Gesù Cristo, con la podestà del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo ;)

5 Che il tale, dico, sia dato in mano di Satana, alla perdizion della carne, acciocchè lo spirito sia salvato nel giorno del Signore Gesù. 6 Il vostro vanto non è buono; non sapete voi che un poco di lievito levita tutta la pasta?

7 Purgate adunque il vecchio lievito, acciocchè siate nuova pasta, secondo che siete senza lievito: conciossiachè la nostra Pasqua,cioè: Cristo, sia stata immolata per noi.

8 Perciò facciam la festa, non con vecchio lievito, nè con lievito di malvagità, e di nequizia, ma con azzimi di sincerità, e di verità.

9 Io vi ho scritto in quell' epistola che voi non vi mescoliate co' fornicatori;

10 Non però del tutto co' fornicatori di questo secolo, o con gli avari, o co' rapaci, o con gl' idolatri; perciocchè altrimenti vi converrebbe uscire del mondo.

and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife.

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed,

4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,

5 To deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 417

11 Ma ora, ecco coloro co' quali vi ho scritto che non vi mescoliate, cioè, che se alcuno, che si nomina fratello, è o fornicatore, o avaro, o idolatro, o ubbriaco, o maldicente, o rapace, non pur mangiate con un tale.

12 Perciocchè che ho io da far di giudicar que' di fuori? non giudicate voi que' di dentro? 13 Or Iddio giudica que' di fuori; ma togliete il malvagio d' infra voi stessi.

RDISCE alcun di voi, avendo

piatire davanti agl' iniqui, e non davanti a' santi ?

2 Non sapete voi che i santi giudicheranno il mondo ? e, se il mondo è giudicato per voi, siete voi indegni de' minimi giudicii?

3 Non sapete voi che noi giudicheremo gli angeli? quanto più possiamo giudicar delle cose di questa vita?

4 Dunque, se avete de' piati per cose di questa vita, fate seder per giudici quelli che nella chiesa sono i più dispregevoli.

5 Io lo dico per farvi vergogna. Così non vi è egli pur un savio fra voi, il qual possa dar giudicio fra l' uno de' suoi fratelli, e l'altro?

6 Ma, fratello con fratello piatisce, e ciò davanti agl' infedeli.

7 Certo adunque già vi è del tutto del difetto in voi, in ciò che voi avete delle liti gli uni con gli altri; perchè non sofferite voi più tosto che torto vi sia fatto? perchè non vi lasciate più tosto far qualche danno ?

8 Ma voi fate torto, e danno; e ciò a' fratelli.

9 Non sapete voi che gl' ingiusti non crederanno il regno di Dio ? non v' ingannate; nè i fornicatori, nè gl' idolatri, nè gli adulteri, nè i molli, nè quelli che usano co' maschi;

3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.

5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.

7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? Why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?

8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.

9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor, abus ers of themselves with mankind,
