rifiutato colui che rendeva gli oracoli sopra la terra; quanto meno scamperemo noi, se rifiutiamo colui che parla dal cielo ?

26 La cui voce allora commosse la terra; ma ora egli ha dinunziato, dicendo: Ancora una volta io commoverò, non sol la terra, ma ancora il cielo.

27 Or quello: Ancora una volta, significa il sovvertimento delle cose commosse, come essendo state fatte; acciocchè quelle che non si commovono dimorino ferme.

28 Perciò, ricevendo il regno che non può esser commosso, riteniamo la grazia, per la quale serviamo gratamente a Dio, con riverenza, e timore.

29 Perciocchè anche l' Iddio nostro è un fuoco consumante.

AMOR fraterno dimori fra voi.

2 Non dimenticate l'ospitalità; perciocchè per essa alcuni albergarono già degli angeli, senza saperlo. 3 Ricordatevi de' prigioni, come essendo lor compagni di prigione; di quelli che sono afflitti, come essendo ancora voi nel corpo.

4 Il matrimonio, e il letto immacolato, è onorevole in tutti; ma Iddio giudicherà i fornicatori, e gli adulteri.

5 Sieno i costumi vostri senza avarizia, essendo contenti delle cose presenti; perciocchè egli stesso ha detto: Io non ti lascerò, e non ti abbandonerò.

6 Talchè possiam dire in confidanza: Il Signore è il mio aiuto; ed io non temerò ciò che mi può far l'uomo.

7 Ricordatevi de' vostri conduttori, i quali v' hanno annunziata la parola di Dio; la cui fede imitate, considerando la fine della loro conversazione.

8 Gesù Cristo è l'istesso ieri, e oggi, e in eterno.

9 Non siate trasportati qua e là per varie, e strane dottrine; perciocchè egli è bene che il cuor sia

2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. 4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto

me.

7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. 9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines: for it is a good thing that the heart be

stabilito per grazia, non per vivande; delle quali non han ricevuto alcun giovamento coloro che sono andati dietro ad esse.

10 Noi abbiamo un altare, del qual non hanno podestà di mangiar coloro che servono al tabernacolo.

11 Perciocchè i corpi degli animali, il cui sangue è portato dal sommo sacerdote dentro al santuario per lo peccato, son arsi fuori del campo.

12 Perciò ancora Gesù, acciocchè santificasse il popolo per lo suo proprio sangue, ha sofferto fuor della porta.

13 Usciamo adunque a lui fuor del campo, portando il suo vituperio.

14 Perciocchè noi non abbiam qui una città stabile, anzi ricerchiamo la futura.

15 Per lui adunque offeriamo del continuo a Dio sacrificii di lode, cioè, il frutto delle labbra confessanti il suo nome.

16 E non dimenticate la beneficenza, e comunicazione; conciossiachè per tali sacrificii si renda servigio grato a Dio.

17 Ubbidite a' vostri conduttori, e sottomettetevi loro; conciossiachè essi veglino per l' anime vostre, come avendone a render ragione; acciocchè facciano questo con allegrezza, e non sospirando; perciocchè quello non vi sarebbe di alcun utile.

18 Pregate per noi; perciocchè noi ci confidiamo d' aver buona coscienza, desiderando conversare onestamente in ogni cosa.

19 E vie più vi prego di far questo, acciocchè più presto io vi sia restituito.

20 Or l' Iddio della pace, che ha tratto da' morti il Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, il gran Pastor delle pecore, per lo sangue del patto eterno;

21 Vi renda compiuti in ogni buona opera, per far la sua volontà, facendo in voi ciò ch'è grato nel suo cospetto, per Gesù Cristo;

established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.

12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to

come.

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his

name.

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief for that is unprofit able for you.

18 Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

19 But I beseech you the rather to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.

20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

21 Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ;

CHAPTER 1.

JAMES, a servant of God and

of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations ;

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering: for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8 A doubleminded man is unstable in all his ways.

9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10 E il ricco, della sua bassezza; perciocchè egli trapasserà come fior d' erba.

11 Imperocchè, come quando è. levato il sole con l' arsura, egli ha tosto seccata l' erba, e il suo fiore è caduto, e la bellezza della sua apparenza è perita; così ancora si appasserà il ricco nelle sue vie.

12 Beato l'uomo che sofferisce tentazione; perciocchè, essendosi renduto approvato, egli riceverà la corona della vita, la quale il Signore ha promessa a coloro che

l' amano.

13 Niuno, essendo tentato, dica: Io son tentato da Dio: conciossiachè Iddio non possa esser tentato di mali, e altresì non tenti alcuno;

14 Ma ciascuno è tentato, essendo attratto, e adescato dalla propria concupiscenza.

15 Poi appresso, la concupiscenza, avendo conceputo, partorisce il peccato; e il peccato, essendo compiuto, genera la morte.

16 Non errate, fratelli miei diletti.

17 Ogni buona donazione, ed ogni dono perfetto, è da alto, discendendo dal Padre de' lumi, appo il quale non vi è mutamento, nè obbombrazion di rivolgimento. 18 Egli ci ha di sua volontà generati per la parola della verità, acciocchè siamo in certo modo le primizie delle sue creature.

19 Perciò, fratelli miei diletti, sia ogni uomo pronto all' udire, tardo al parlare, lento all' ira.

10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any

man:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

16 Do not err, my beloved breth

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like

RATELLI miei, non abbiate

Cristo, Signor nostro, con riguardi alle qualità delle persone.

2 Perciocchè, se nella vostra raunanza entra un uomo con l' anel d'oro, in vestimento splendido; e v'entra parimente un povero, in vestimento sozzo;

3 E voi riguardate a colui che porta il vestimento splendido, e gli dite Tu, siedi qui onorevolmente; e al povero dite: Tu, stattene quivi in piè, o siedi qui sotto allo scannello de' miei piedi ;

4 Non avete voi fatta differenza in voi stessi? e non siete voi divenuti giudici di malvage pensieri ? 5 Ascoltate, fratelli miei diletti : Non ha Iddio eletti i poveri del mondo, per esser ricchi in fede, ed eredi dell' eredità che egli ha promessa a coloro che l' amano ?

6 Ma voi avete disonorato il povero. I ricchi non son eglino quelli che vi tiranneggiano? non son eglino quelli che vi traggono alle corti?

7 Non son eglino quelli che bestemmiano il buon nome, del quale voi siete nominati ?

8 Se in vero voi adempiete la

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he

was.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

My brethren, have not the faith

of our Lord Jesus Christ, the | Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

3 And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

4 Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

6 But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?
