CHURCH EXTENSION.

Muswell Hill.-The Lord Bishop of London has consecrated the new church of St. James, on Muswell Hill, in the parish of Hornsey. The church is calculated to accommodate 400 persons: one-third of the sittings are free; the site was presented by Henry Warner, Esq., who also subscribed 2007. towards the erection.

New Church in the liberty of the Rolls.— The Bishop of London lately consecrated the church of St. Thomas, situate in Bream's-buildings, Chancery-lane.

The church is built on a site of ground presented by the Bishop of Chichester, and is a remarkably neat edifice, built in the Gothic style, capable of affording accommodation for about 1000 persons, and erected at a cost of 3600l., the whole of which has been raised, with the exception of 6801. The pews in the body of the church, and the oak carvings of the screen, formerly belonged to the Temple Church.

The church of St. Thomas, in the parish of Aldersgate, has been consecrated by the Lord Bishop of London. The ground was given by the Governors of the Charterhouse, and the church will contain about 1500 persons. The expense of the building has been defrayed from the Metropolitan Churches' Fund.

St. Paul's, Shadwell, in Thorner.-The neat little edifice which has been recently erected at Shadwell, and intended as a chapel of ease to the parish church of Thorner, was consecrated by the Right Reverend the Lord Bishop of Ripon, on Thursday, 21st July. It is calculated to seat rather more than 200 persons.

Winchester. On the 21st July, the new and elegant church of the united parishes of St. Maurice and St. Mary Calendar, in this city, was consecrated by the Lord Bishop of the diocese.

Llangarron, Herefordshire.-The church of Llangarron having been repaired and enlarged, has been re-opened for Divine service.

Whitley Lower, Yorkshire.-The foundation-stone of a new church at Whitley Lower, in the parish of Thornhill, has been laid. The church will be a handsome structure in the Norman style of architecture, and is to contain about 400 sittings, of which a considerable number will be free. The site is given by the Earl of Dartmouth, and the whole expense of the erection will be most generously defrayed by Thomos Wheatley, Esq., of Cote Wall, Mirfield.

St. Paul's Church, Buttershaw, York

shire. This church has been consecrated by the Right Reverend the Lord Bishop of Ripon. The church is situated a little to the right on the road from Bradford to Halifax, and has been erected at the sole expense of John Hardy, Esq., M.P. At the conclusion of the service in the church, the Bishop consecrated the adjoining ground as a place of sepulture.

Barnstaple. A very interesting meeting was lately held at the Guildhall, Barnstaple, after the consecration of the new chapel at Harracott, to make arrangements in aid of the new church proposed to be built in that parish, towards which desirable object the Rev. J. J. Scott has so munificently contributed. The presence of the Lord Bishop of the diocese materially aided the cause. Subscriptions amounting to above 11007. of the 20007. required, have already been announced.

Barnard's Green, Worcestershire. A new chapel is to be built and endowed at Barnard's Green, in the parish of Great Malvern, Worcestershire, under circumstances of a very unusual character. The design has been originated by a few farmers and poor labourers, who form a population of 372 persons resident from two to four miles from their parish church. The sum of 81l. 1s. 6d. has been subscribed by these

persons in amounts varying from 6d. to 107. 10s. The parishioners of Great Malvern have formed a Committee to collect subscriptions. The total amount required is 17507.

Trinity Church, Plymouth.-This church was lately consecrated by the Bishop of Exeter. Upwards of forty of the clergy were present. The sittings are nearly all taken. There are about 600 free sittings for the poor.

Ripon.-The new church at Mickley, near Ripon, has been consecrated by the Lord Bishop of the diocese. This church has been built at the cost of the members of the Dalton family, and the endowment raised by subscription among the neighbouring families, aided by a grant of 300. from the Ripon Diocesan Church Building Society.
