THE Editor has been induced to add one more to the many collections of Italian Poetry which have been already published—not only in Italy but also in England, France and Germany-by a desire of supplying the want experienced by himself, as a Tutor, of an elementary and progressive Reading book, calculated to facilitate to young beginners the acquirement of the language and the comprehension of its spirit, and, it is hoped, to encourage them to persevere in a task which, although not without difficulties, offers an abundant reward to success. A competent knowledge of the beautiful language of Italy being in the present day an indispensable accomplishment of young Ladies, the Editor has been guided in his selection of the Extracts by the greatest care, with the view of adapting the book especially to their use; and hopes to obtain the approbation of all |
