8. No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other, ye cannot serve God and Mammon. Matt. vi. 24.- -The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. vi. 23.

9. The word of the Lord came unto Abram, in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield. Gen. xv. 1. -God is our hope and strength: a very present help in trouble. Ps. xlvi. 1.

O God, who through the preaching of the blessed Apostle, St. Paul, hast caused the light of the gospel to shine throughout the world: Grant, we beseech thee, that we, having his wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show forth our thankfulness unto thee for the same, by following the holy doctrine which he taught, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood.

8 FEBRUARY.

1. And Moses stretched forth his hand toward Heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. Ex. x. 22, 23.- For Thou Lord wilt give thy blessing unto the righteous, and with thy favourable kindness wilt thou defend him as with a shield. Ps. v. 13.

2. Purification of the Virgin Mary.-COLLECT FOR THE DAY. Almighty and Everliving God, we humbly beseech Thy Majesty; that as Thy only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in substance of our flesh; so we may be presented unto Thee, with pure and clean hearts, by the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

3. The blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt. Ex. xii. 13.—I delivered unto you first of all, that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. 1 Cor. xv. 3.

4. And The Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. Ex. xiv. 15, 16.And he said unto them, why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, what manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? Mark iv. 40, 41.
