MedeaClarendon Press, 1973 - 168 sayfa This is the first full-scale edition in English, with introduction, text, apparatus criticus and commentary, of a play by Seneca: the last edition of any kind appeared over sixty years ago. It's purpose is primarily to elucidate Seneca's play, but also to make the edition useful to students of English and French literature by showing some of its links with the work of later playwrights. Seneca's influence on European literature is well attested, and the Medea is particularly interesting, as it was preceded by Euripides' version and followed by many plays on the subject in England, France, and Germany, derived more or less closely from Seneca's. --pubisher description. |
