GOODE'S DIVINE RULE OF FAITH AND PRACTICE.

He does not despise the early Fathers, but holds them in the highest esteem, and they gather around him a great, and good, and glorious company, to bear an overwhelming testimony to the truth, and soundness, and catholicity of the doctrines, discipline and worship of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and to the utter departure from primitive, and apostolic, and catholic truth of the doctrines of the Tractarians and Romanists. We do hope that every clergyman in our church, whatever may have been his previous views, will take up and examine this work.-Episcopal Recorder.

"This work displays great learning in the Latin and Greek Fathers, and the greatest justice and caution in the selection and interpretation of passages from them. Mr. Goode is an accomplished scholar, and seems to have given his full powers to the search and presentation of the truth, reach where it may and prove what it will. No one can read his book without being struck with the greatness both of his candour and sagacity. It is a work of standard value as illustrating the principles of the English reformation, and as a guide and authoritative teacher in the controversy with the Romanists. It is a book for Protestants of every name, and will be welcomed as such, we predict, in every quarter."-A Correspondent.

"Mr. Goode's Book is a most important and unanswerable one, not valuable merely for the present crisis, but as a standard work of reference."-Bishop Mead.

THE POETICAL WORKS OF JOHN STERLING.

Edited by Rufus W. Griswold; Phila., Herman Hooker. It is with the highest pleasure that we refer to that 'purer, poetical taste' fast springing up in the heart of American readers, to which the Editor of this beautiful volume appeals for favour. For years past, whenever a new number of Blackwood's Magazine-the best literary Monthly in the English language-has reached us, we have looked eagerly over its 'Contents, in the hope, seldom disappointed, of finding 'ARCHEUS' among its honoured names: and when we saw among the latest of his Poems that crowning glory of them all-The Sexton's Daughter'— which in the harmony of its simple diction, and the eloquence of its pure, profound, truthful feeling, is worthy the genius of WORDSWORTH himself-we felt that here was a Poet whom the world must love and worship. In this first American Edition are included all his Poetical works-so far as they have been published. We are sure they will meet with a welcome from those to whom they are addressed. Beside the first and longest poem, it contains "The Hymns of a Hermit,' breathing the pure spirit of reverence for the highest truth, and a great variety of shorter pieces upon all subjects that came beneath the Poet's eye. We commend the book, heartily and with confidence, to all lovers of the purest verse.-New York Tribune.
