PREFACE. THE Author is aware that a reader cannot be expected to concern himself with the motives, or take any interest in the circumstances, which may have led to the publication of any work which he purposes to peruse. But in the present instance -with respect to the pages now before the reader -a sense of propriety, the Author feels, dictates some exposition of his motives for publication. Every person of ordinary discernment must be aware that, at the present day, there exists a wide disconformity of opinion betwixt members of the Church of England. This disconformity of opinion has given rise to a virtual division in our Church. The two parties the term party is not, in strictness, applicable, but the Author is constrained to adopt it for the sake of precision |
