"This book offers a detailed discussion of Callimachus' collection of Iambi, arguably one of the earliest surviving Greek 'poetry books'. Dr Kerkhecker has set out chapters on individual poems which examine the evidence for the text; address questions of linguistic and antiquarian detail; attempt an interpretation of each poem as a whole; and consider the arrangement of the poems within the book. An attempt is made to relate this new form of poetic composition to the influence of scholarly interests and techniques on Hellenistic poetry in general, and on Callimachus in particular.
